STAGE THREE OF AMY GILLETT BIKEWAY OPENDED

The Amy Gillett Foundation today welcomed the official opening of Stage Three of the Amy Gillett Bikeway in South Australia, connecting Charleston to Mount Torrens.

Tracey Gaudry, Chief Executive Officer of the Amy Gillett Foundation said the 7km Stage Three completion builds upon the 10km of Bikeway completed in 2010 and 2011.

“The Amy Gillett Bikeway safely connects Oakbank, Woodside, Charleston and now Mount Torrens, providing a safe alternative to riding on Onkaparinga Valley Road,” said Ms Gaudry.

“There are plans for a further 15km of bikeway, connecting through to Mt Pleasant – we hope this will be supported with government funding.

“To improve participation, we need to invent safe on-road and off-road facilities for cycling. The Amy Gillett Bikeway shows the SA Government is committed to providing these options for the community.

“Amy Gillett’s legacy, through the Amy Gillett Foundation, is about improving bike rider safety and reducing bike rider serious injuries and fatalities. The Amy Gillett Bikeway is a great example of this in action.

The stage was officially opened by SA Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Stephen Mullighan and Mary Safe, Amy’s mother.
