The Amy Gillett Bikeway
The first 5Km of the Adelaide Hills Rail Trail named as the Amy Gillett Bikeway was officially opened by State Transport Minister Patrick Conlon and Amy Gillet Foundation and parents of Amy Gillett Mary and Dennis Safe on Saturday 23 January 2010.

This first stage of shared trail from Oakbank to Woodside is a result of $1m funding from the State Government. The Minister also vowed to spend about $1M every year to transform all 32Km of the disused rail corridor from Oakbank to Mt Pleasant into a sealed track for cyclists, walkers and horse riders.

Plans to build the next stage to Charleston are being worked on and will be included in the 2010/11 State Budget. The large group of walkers, cyclists and horse riders were thrilled with the news and the opening of the trail after years of lobbying for the corridor's conversion.

"This first stage is a fantastic start, the beginning of the big picture, and there will be a lot more things to come" said Peter O'Brien the president of the Adelaide Hills Rail Trail Committee.
